Tips For Using A Clip-On Polarized Lens

Polarized lenses work the same way as polarized sunglasses do. They reduce glare and contain a special filter that blocks intense reflective light. It makes your photos appear vibrant and clear. Here are some quick and easy tips to help you get the best out of your clip-on polarized lens.

  1. Great For Use In Daylight. Polarized lenses are perfect to use in natural daylight like when you are out in the sun. A polarized lens will make the scene look better by increasing saturation, reducing and eliminating glare, and darkening down a washed out sky, making it appear to be a brighter shade of blue.
  2. Eliminating Vignette. Sometimes when using a clip-on lens it can appear that there is a black ring around your photo. This is called a vignette and is easily fixed. All you have to do is zoom in a tiny amount on your phone and the black corners and ring will disappear from your shot.
  3. Positioning of the Sun. When taking pictures outside, you want to take the photo at a 90 degree angle to the sun for the best light and the least amount of glare.
  4. Water. Polarized lenses can produce some amazing effects when you are taking a picture of water. The lens will give the water a softer, flowing effect without extra glare from the light off the water droplets.
  5. Shiny Objects. Taking pictures of shiny objects is really easy with a polarized lens. You can get a great picture of a shiny object like jewelry or metal with a polarized lens. The object will appear clear and give you a great, non-reflective result.
  6. Avoid Panorama Shots. Try to avoid using a polarized lens for a large, panoramic picture. Such a wide angle will alter the polarization effect as you vary and change your angle from the sun.
  7. Light Source. As mention above, polarized lenses do great when use in natural light, especially outdoors. But what if I am indoors? A polarized lens can still do a lot in artificial light but when you are taking a close up image of something like a necklace indoors, it can really help the picture to have a proper light source above the subject. Try something like our Clip-On Selfie Light!
  8. It Looks the Same? Polarized lenses have a very subtle effect on your photo. This is not necessarily a bad thing it just means that you may not see a drastic change while looking through your phone. To see the difference the lens makes just take a photo of the same thing with and without the lens and compare the two in proper lighting.

Clip-on polarized lenses can be a great way to get really clear and intense photos right from your phone. Remember it is not always possible to get the best image on the first try. Work the scene and keep taking pictures until it feels right. Have fun experimenting with different angles and lighting to see what you can ultimately create.
